After a long night’s rest, I woke up on Tuesday. Katie, Sarah, Hannah, Jenny, Anisha, Brian and I were going to go to the palace gardens before we left for Rome at 11. The gardens were beautiful and had lots of trees and statues. We got another great view of the city there too. We couldn’t stay too long since we had to go back to the bus, but it was still great.
We got back to the bus and departed for Rome. Our hotel in Rome was actually a former convent and pretty creepy. The floors were all either stone or wood. Meredith R and Katie both said they felt like they were checking into a horror movie. Well, when in Rome?
Next we had free time for the afternoon. We made out way to the metro and headed towards the Colosseum. It was amazing. The structure is so large and it’s really incredible that it has stood for so long. We walked all around and took lots of pictures.
Our next stop was the Trivi fountain. You’re supposed to throw a coin into the fountain so that you will (as Jasmin says) “have a big love” and come back to Rome. The fountain was also massive and very crowded but I managed to get a coin in and nearly fell in when I slipped on the stone.
We ate dinner nearby, which was unfortunately unsatisfying in portion and overall quality. Before heading back to the hotel, we stopped for gelato at San Crispino, which our tour guide had recommended as a great place in Rome. It was pretty good, but I still think the one in Florence was the best.
We got back to the hotel and got on the bus for a driving tour of the city. When we got back, we found out that another person in our group has gotten pick-pocketed on the metro. We all kind of panicked and made it a point to be more carful.
We drove all around the city and it was very pretty to see all of the old ruins lot up at night. Probably the highlight of the tour was when we drove by the Colosseum and Aaron played the Gladiator soundtrack over the speakers on the bus. Tasha was so happy she was about to cry she loved it so much. It was pretty great. After the tour and being in two cities, we all headed back to the hotel to get some rest for the next day in Rome.
