The next morning, we left Venice for Florence. It was a very beautiful drive through mountains in Italy. Once we arrived, we had a little but of time to shop and eat outside the main square of the city. We picked a random restaurant and I had the absolute best spaghetti I’ve ever had with a tomato and cream sauce. So, so good.
Next we met back with the group for a walking tour of Florence. The church where we started has the bodies of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, and Galileo – no big deal. We walked all around the city and saw the Doma, the Gates of Paradise, the Ponte Vecchio bridge and a lot of what the city has to offer.
After the tour, we had planned to go to the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s David. On our way there, we stopped to get some gelato. We picked the right place and I literally had the best gelato of my life. I had wild berry and dark chocolate. So, so good. The lady working there said the fruity flavors were made from only fruit, sugar and water. Absolutely delicious.
From there, we continued on to the gallery. We had made a reservation while we were in Austria so that we wouldn’t have to wait in like as long since our tour would end around 4 and the museum was only going to be open until 6:30pm. Of course, with our travel luck, we found out the reservation never went through and we wouldn’t be able to go. Another reason to come back? Since we had put the reservation on Meredith R’s card, we had all paid her and to her delight, she had to pay us all back. Poor girl.
We got over not being able to see David with a little bit of retail therapy at the leather market. There was everything leather, tons of scarves and lots of souvenirs. After we finished, we walked back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
There was a restaurant next to the hotel called Outside. I ordered a pasta with bacon and a cheese sauce – so good. Hannah and Marie each got calzones as big as their head so that was pretty funny.
After dinner, the entire group was meeting back up to go to a club called Space Electronica. We all met there and had so much fun (again, possibly too much?) There was tons of stages and the dj was pretty good. Such a good night in Florence.
