Guten tag Austria: Salt & the Sound of Music

After our late night out, Katie and I woke up 5 minutes before the bus was supposed to leave. We somehow managed to pack and get down not too late so luckily we weren’t stranded in Munich. From there we began our drive to Austria.

Our first stop was the salt mines in Beechtesgarden. There we took a tour of the mines and went down two big slides. Part of the tour included a boat ride across a salt lake. It was pretty cool being inside a mountain, but I think I learned more about table salt than I will ever need to know.

From there, our next stop was Salzburg. The weather was terrible, but we had a couple hours to explore the city. There was something going in in the main town square with lots of little cars, so that was cool to see.

Our first stop was lunch. I had some pretty good noodles with a Parmesan and asparagus sauce. We then braved the cold to visit some of the sites where the Sound of Music was filmed. I saw the movie for the first time the night before we left for the trip, but both Merediths are huge fans. We also saw the most terrifying statue I’ve ever seen in my life.

Since it was so cold, we decided to have some hot chocolate instead of being outside for an hour. It was good!

After leaving Salzburg we went to our resort in the Austrian alps. Our hotel was great! The rooms were really big, but the best part was probably the full spa in the basement.

We had a four course meal and then the group decided we should all hang out in the basement where there was a foosball and ping pong table. We did some serious bonding (with our tour guide and bus driver too) and it was a lot of fun (maybe too much?)
